Former Machakos senator Johnstone Muthama has questioned President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga regarding their joint push for constitutional changes.
The duo has been pushing for a referendum, in what the leader claims is a plot to host themselves in the government at the exclusion of others outside their formation.
Speaking in Tala, Machakos on Saturday, he claimed that the plot is to establish the Prime Minister position to house one of them as the other occupies the president's position.
He noted that the same will be unfair to Kenyans if it is indeed the plot behind their March 9, 2018, handshake.
“I can say here without fear of contradiction that what Uhuru and Raila are pushing for is aimed at creating positions of Prime Minister and President for none other than themselves and if that is the route they want to take this country, I am telling them that it will not be fair to Kenyans," said Muthama.
He predicted a collapse for the push in the instance that the two are plotting to subject the nation to a referendum for their own sakes, warning that it will further divide Kenyans.
He said that if indeed interested in uniting the nation, then they should either make positions for all the 45 ethnic communiries or abort the push in its entirety.
“If they want political stability in the country arising from inclusion in Government, let them create 45 positions to ensure all communities enjoy representation in Government.
I will carefully gauge the proposed law and I will be proud to make history as having rejected an amendment to the Constitution which was of no help to Kenyans,” he said.
This, however, comes as a sudden change of heart as the leader has been enjoying a good relationship with Raila, one that began in 2013.
The push has also been endorsed by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
