The leader of the majority in the National Assembly Aden Duale who also doubles up as the Member of Parliament for Garissa Township is one of the most fierce and respected leaders in the Kenyan political arena.
He is known for not only representing and defending the Jubilee Party but also strongly supporting Deputy President William Ruto's presidential bid.
But away from being at the forefront of the heated politics, Duale has another side of him that is seldom seen.
Back at his farm and home in Garissa, Duale is a very respected pastoralist with deep and rich knowledge of his community's traditions and cultures.
In an interview with Citizen TV, Duale prided himself in a large herd of livestock.
Once in a while, he would dress up in his cultural attire and go to the farm to perform functions such as milking on his own.
"In the pastoralist community, number one you don't disclose how many camels you own. So even me I would not tell you the number of my herds. It is cultural. In fact, it is not only camels but you can also not disclose the number of your children to the outside world," Duale stated while taking a sip of fresh milk from the camel.
According to the MP, being at the farm and taking care of his livestock gives him peace of mind and frees him from the politics back in the capital city.
"This is where I come when the seats in parliament become very hot, the politics become so toxic. When I want to unwind I come to my farm here, sit with these young guys, look after the herds, which one is sick which one is okay," Duale notes.
For a leader who holds one of the most powerful offices in the parliament, Duale is a humble politician who values his tradition and culture.
