President Uhuru Kenyatta's cabinet reshuffle earlier in the week was a response to those who have been viewing him as a lame duck president, political analyst Dismas Mokua has said.
Uhuru on Tuesday made changes to his cabinet, changes that saw Mwangi Kiunjuri lose his position of the Agriculture Cabinet Secretary.
Mokua says that Uhuru was responding to his government officials and Jubilee Party members, as well as international organizations that have been downplaying him, some even daring him to act on them, that he can act.
"The reason why President Kenyatta did the reshuffle is because some members of his political party had started referring to him as a 'Lame duck president'," he said in an interview on KTN News on Sunday.
But he pointed out that the reshuffle has nothing to do with Kenyans and politicians, observing that none of them, will benefit from it.
According to the commentator, the changes were all about the president and his bid to stamp his authority and was not in any way aimed at benefitting Kenyans or the political class.
"In the reshuffle there is only one winner; President Kenyatta, everybody else is a loser," he added.
Kiunjuri's sacking has been welcomed by majority of politicians, a sacking that pundits have linked to his dalliance with Deputy President William Ruto, at a time when Uhuru and Ruto appear to not be drifting apart.
