Thika town has for so long been known as Kenya's industrial hub. This characteristic is however being quickly replaced by other options as the town struggles to remain a top spot in the country's economy. Farming is one of the activities that have picked up and progressing well. Some of the lands in Thika are known to be swampy and derelicted but farmers seem to have found a way of getting it in order to practice small scale commercial farming. Thika town residents can now enjoy fresh farm products straight from the shamba. The land had been used for years by the Maasai pastoralists to rear their cattle hence the degradation.
