A local chief in Kisii County has changed tactics in his area of jurisdiction in a move aimed at flushing out illicit brewers.
Bomariba sub-location assistant chief Benjamin Ayuma opined that he will be holding public barazas with residents two days in a week, and sensitize them on the dangers of illicit brew making, selling and consumption.
"I have realized that arresting residents alone will not help ending the illicit brew business. I have resolved to holding public barazas to engage residents and advise them on the need to shun engaging in illegal business which may put them in trouble," he said.
The chief called on residents not to boycott the public barazas which will be held every Monday and Friday.
The administrator reiterated his commitment to fight the illicit brew business arguing that the education level in the sub-location is low because most parents have ventured fully into alcohol consumption.
"Residents need to venture into businesses which are legalized by the government. I will not sit and watch residents engaging in the making, selling, distribution and consumption of illicit liquor," said Ayuma.
Ayuma was speaking on Sunday in Miranga where he urged Nyumba Kumi officials to be on the front line to flush out those engaging in outlawed businesses.
