Police in Kisumu have been questioned on their laxity to act on an assault case pitting Gem Member of Parliament Elisha Odhiambo, over claims that he assaulted a blogger.
Maurice Oduor, a Kisumu blogger, is accusing the lawmaker of assaulting him on June over a social media post revolving around the constituency's CDF office which is being probed.
He claimed that it began with threats from the MPs supporters before the MP assaulted him, a matter he repotted to the police, but says that they have not been doing anything about it.
Consequently, through his lawyer Jared Sala, he wrote a complaint to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) which is now demanding for answers from the county police.
The DPP has since written to the county commander demanding for the file in the incident, while the Ombudsman has given them 21 days to prosecute the case.
The Commission of Administration of Justice has also written to the involved OCS to indicate the actions taken in prosecuting the case.
"In light of the urgency of the matter, we look forward to hearing from you within 21 days of receipt of this letter,” reads the letter in part, according to the Standard.
However, the police have denied receiving the two letters from the DPP and the Ombudsman.
