Former Mukurwe-ini MP Kabando Wa Kabando has endorsed remarks by ODM leader Raila Odinga, that for Kenya to prosper, corruption and the economy must be revived.
While throwing his weight behind the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), Raila said the report was about fighting corruption, which he noted had impoverished Kenyans and called for severe jail terms for graft convicts.
"If we don’t deal with the scourge of corruption, life will continue being hard for the majority of Kenyans because what is supposed to grow the economy gets stolen. We need stiff sentences for the corrupt so that they stop masquerading as heroes and philanthropists among us," he said on Saturday.
On the economy, the former Prime Minister proposed formulation of an economic model that will ensure citizens reap big from their labour and capital.
"Kenyans are feeling the pinch of an economy that is not meeting their expectations. The truth is that prosperous nations share one thing in common: they came up with an economic model that got implemented consistently over a sustained period of time: This is what BBI is pursuing," he stated.
Reacting to the sentiments, Kabando likened the ODM boss to former US President Bill Clinton, and exuded confidence that the BBI will be heavily endorsed in Mt Kenya, particularly due to the recommendations supporting war on corruption.
"Yes, Raila Odinga aptly puts as Bill Clinton in 1992 “it’s economy, stupid!”. The BBI ‘rainbow’ wave unstoppable. When we get to the mountain, sparkles of triumph will reverberate indomitably. Captives of graft will be cast into river Sagana. BBI train electric," the ex-legislator tweeted.
