Rabbit farmers in Njoro will benefit from a one day Workshop Training on quality rabbit meat production that will be held at the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Institute (KALRI) in Njoro in May 15.

The Director of Livestock Research and Training Dr. Pius Nyakundi revealed this on Monday during an interview with this writer in his office at KALRI’s Njoro branch.

Dr. Nyakundi said that the training programme that will be held in collaboration with Egerton University’s Department of Animal Sciences targets Rabbit Farmers Association of Njoro members who made the request with an aim of getting empowered by the two agriculturally oriented local research and training institutions.

“This training is being planned as special request from a clique of local rabbit farmers who have a desire of receiving skills to empower themselves to become better quality rabbit meat producers. We hope to train more than 50 rabbit farmers across Njoro sub-county,’’ said Dr. Nyakundi.

He explained that the training workshop will also enable the farmers to interact and share individual knowledge and experiences in Rabbit farming and also to create personal and group networks and contacts among themselves and the facilitators.

Dr. Nyakundi further explained that the training will involve around the basic breeding methods and breeds, feeding diversities, housing, slaughtering and storage techniques that promotes quality rabbit meat products.
