Former presidential candidate Martha Karua has rubbished calls for a referendum to implement the BBI report.
Speaking during an interview with NTV on Tuesday night, Karua admitted that after going through the BBI report, she sees nothing that connects it with constitutional amendment.
"I want to look at the BBI report and say much of it has nothing to do with a constitutional amendment," said Martha Karua
There is a debate on whether the implementation of the BBI report should be done through a referendum or parliamentary voting.
However, the NARC-Kenya party leader, insisted that the decision on the implementation of the report should not be imposed on Kenyans, as they have the right of choosing what's best for them.
She believes that Kenyans should be given a chance of going through the report and make their own decision as no one is entitled to force the BBI report onto them.
While sharing the panel with Senator James Orengo, Karua, a former MP, also outlined the problem that Kenya faces when it comes to making a strong constitution by stating that the problem is not a parliamentary or presidential system but the people that get elected.
"The problems we are experiencing now, we still experienced in a parliamentary system. It is not a parliamentary or a presidential system that make a strong constitution. It is the caliber of people we elect," Karua said
