A 45-year-old man from Kiandai Village in Kirinyaga County was beaten to death after he failed to settle a Sh60 debt after taking alcohol at a local bar.
The man identified as Francis Bundi was allegedly beaten to death by a group of youth after he failed to clear his alcohol bill.
Kirinyaga East Police Boss Antony Wanjuu who confirmed the incident said they have arrested three suspects in connection to the murder.
Reports indicate that following the Tuesday evening attack, Bundi was on Wednesday morning found dead and had suffered serious head injuries.
Wanjuu said the arrested suspects, two women and a man will assist the police with their investigation.
“The suspects were flushed out of their houses soon after the incident was reported. The matter is being treated as murder,” said Wanjuu.
Area residents said that Bundi was stripped naked when he was attacked by a gang of youth allegedly hired by a female bar attendant.
The female bar attendant on Tuesday evening had asked Bundi to clear his bill after taking alcohol at the local bar but he said he had no money.
The waitress is said to have allegedly attacked him and kicked him out of the bar and later summoned the group of youth who attacked Bundi.
The matter was reported at Kianyaga Police Station on Wednesday morning when a resident, Ejidious Kiura, who was with his colleagues found the body.
Bundi’s family led by his brother-in-law, Joseph Kangangi, have called for a speedy investigation and arrest of the people who killed Bundi.
“The victim was brutally killed and we are now crying for justice,” said Kangangi.
