This follows recent claims that he is among a group of wanted local politicians allegedly engaging in the illicit trade.

But in an interview on Sunday, he insisted that he is neither wanted nor involved in the illicit trade, adding that he is not being sought by the United States authorities.

During the interview Sonko said he does not know how the products he is being alleged of dealing in look like.

"First, I know there is a list circulating out there that has my name on it, claiming that I am wanted by Interpol. I don't deal in drugs. I wouldn't even know what drugs are if you put them in front of me. I am not wanted by Interpol or the US," he said.

Supporting his claim, Sonko said he recently met US envoy to Kenya Kyle McCarter, adding that he has an American visa, which he wouldn't have be issued if he was indeed being sought by the American authorities.

"In fact, I have a five-year US visa. And I was with the ambassador the other day," he added.
