In an exclusive interview with Sofia Wanuna on Standard Media Group-owned Kenya Television Network (KTN) on Thursday night, Mr Guyo said what had transpired over the last month was disgraceful.

"I want to take this opportunity first to apologise to Nairobians. What transpired for the last one month in Nairobi is disgraceful and we don't want to be associated with it and I hope Nairobians will forgive us," he said.

The former majority leader has been locked in a supremacy battle with Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi.

A few weeks ago, a group of MCAs stormed the speaker's office and tried to forcefully evict her when news filtered through that she had been reinstated by a court.

Elachi accused Mr Guyo, in the wake of the chaos, of sponsoring the violence against her.

She claimed that Guyo had been against her because of how strict she had been on the use of county funds.

The governing Jubilee party, through its secretary-general Raphael Tuju, sent out communication that it had decided to replace Abdi Guyo with Charles Thuo as the majority leader.

The power struggles in Nairobi had got residents worried about service delivery.
