At least 25 people have been admitted in hospital following a cholera outbreak in Githurai, Kiamumbi and Riabai areas in Kiambu County.
Out of the 25 patients, 22 were admitted to the Kiambu Level Five Hospital, while the other three were taken to the Thika Level Five Hospital.
The three are said to be a mother and her two children who hail from Githurai 44.
Patrick Nyaga, a medical superintendent at the Thika Level Five Hospital said the hospital is closely monitoring the condition of a man who was admitted to the hospital on Monday night after suffering from acute diarrhea.
"We would want to encourage patients wherever they are not to move to many hospitals at the same time. At the moment there is a treatment centre in Kiambu and we encourage the people within that neighbourhood to seek treatment there," said Dr Nyaga, as quoted by the Nation.
On Tuesday, Kiambu Level Five Hospital medical superintendent Jesse Ngugi confirmed that they had already set up an isolation ward, fully equipped with facilities with a selected team of doctors mandated to manage the increasing cases.
Ngugi also said the hospital is planning to reach out to health officials in Nairobi County to come up with suitable ways of containing the spread of the disease.
"We began admitting cholera patients on Friday when the first one came in. We need to work together as a team from both counties because the patients are shared between Kiambu County and Nairobi County. If we don't work together then we might not go far," he said.
Doctors suspect the cholera outbreak might be due to patients drinking contaminated water.
