Last week on Friday, Mrs Momanyi ditched Dr Ruto's camp, a move that came as a surprise given her closeness with the deputy leader of Jubilee party.

While addressing a group of youths at her Nyamira home, Mrs Momanyi said time had come for the Abagusii community to gang behind one leader in quest for State House.

According to the first term legislator, Abagusii community will have a bigger bargaining power in future should they rally behind Dr Matiang'i, who is however yet to declare interest in Presidency.

"I had no choice but to support Dr Fred Matiang'i. He has shown willingness to unite our people and it will be betrayal if we do not back his bid," she said.

"For us to have a bargaining power, we must support one of our own. That's why I'll not continue supporting others. Let them now come to our table and negotiate as equals."

Dr Matiang'i is increasingly becoming popular in Gusii region. Over 30 elected and nominated leaders chose him as de facto leader last Saturday at a function held in Borabu MP Ben Momanyi's home.

Mrs Momanyi departure from Ruto's camp is a big blow given her popularity on the ground. She said that in future, she will be leading Pro-Matiang'i campaigns.
