Speaking at a funeral in Mtondia village, Tezo ward, Jumwa said that she is ready to join the Umoja Summit Party of Kenya

She divulged that the party is an ideal vehicle for the region for Coast residents to air their grievances.

The legislator also accused ODM party of taking advantage of the residents of the Coast region.

She argued that political parties from the other areas have been using and dumping them after general elections despite their contribution in each successive exercise. Jumwa said that time has come for the leaders from the region to stand and fight for their communities.

Jumwa also noted that the Mijikenda and other communities from the Coast region are no longer ready to support leaders who will not change their lives after the election.

“There is time for everything. Mijikenda are tired. If a local party is our salvation, then I am fully behind USPK,” the lawmaker said.

Kilifi North MP Owen Baya has said that he will ask leaders from the region to convene a meeting where they will discuss the issue.

Baya has also faulted the ODM top leadership for failing to address the problems facing the residents of the Coast region.

USPK Secretary-General Naomi Cidi has also asked the leaders from the region to reconsider backing ODM and Jubilee.

He argued that the parties no longer have the interests of the people at heart.
