President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga on Monday received a huge boost after the United States endorsed BBI Report.
The two leaders reconciled in March 2018 with their unity culminating in launching of Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report last month.
Last week, the two extended the term for the team in the office so that it can oversee smooth implementation.
Speaking on Monday at Nandi, US ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter said the report will promote stability in the country.
The US envoy lauded the two leaders, calling for expeditious implementation of the report by authorities for the sake of unity.
“The United States is a great friend of Kenya and although I do not agree with all details in the BBI, the USA fully supports it for Kenya to remain a united country," McCarter said as quoted by Nation, and also expressed support for devolution.
Anglican Church of Kenya bishops, Paul Korir (Kapsabet) and Emmanuel Kimengich (Kitale) however said Kenya is heading in the wrong direction because senior political leaders from major parties are taking hard-line positions on the BBI report.
“Both President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga should ensure Kenya remained united ahead of the 2022 elections,” Bishop Korir said.
A technical team is set to be launched which will refine the document and subsequently form a bill which will be taken to county assemblies for debate.
