Seven goats were on Thursday killed by a prowling leopard at Lare Division, Njoro sub-district.
According to the owner of the goats, Peter Kamau, the incident occurred in the wee hours of the morning, waking up at 5am only to find all his animals dead.
Area chief, Ezekiel Omboti, confirmed the incident and appealed to Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) to compensate the owner.
Since the beginning of the year, the marauding leopard has killed over 50 goats and sheep in Nakuru County.
The County Warden, Jacob Ilo Orahle, said they suspect it is the same leopard that has been roving the area and killing animals for quite some time now.
Orahle further advised residents that in cases seeking for compensation, the owner should go to a livestock officer, who will write a report on the type and number of animals injured. After getting a livestock officer’s report, then the victims are required to report to their local chief and take the reports to the KWS offices.
However, even after the reports are received, the KWS officers only pays compensation after further verification and investigation.
