Police in Machakos County has commenced investigations on two incidents of suicide in Kathiani and Kangundo sub-counties.
A 35-year-old man from Kawethei in Kangundo hanged himself after quarreling with his wife on Monday afternoon.
Reports indicate that the man who worked as a tailor set his house on fire, and proceeded to hang himself in a rented house in the town.
Meanwhile, another suicide was reported on Tuesday morning in Mutitu village, after the body of a 17-year-old boy was found hanging on a tree.
The young man had gone missing from home on Monday evening only to be found dead.
The incidents were confirmed by Kangundo sub-county police commander Benjamin Ong'ombe who said suicide cases were becoming rampant.
In an interview on Tuesday, Ong'ombe urged residents to find alternative solutions to their problems instead of committing suicide.
"Everyone has problems and if we decide to solve them by killing ourselves then the earth would be left empty. We should find solutions, talk to someone you trust, seek guidance from religious leaders or even counselors but don't give up life," he said.
The bodies of the two are currently being preserved at Kangundo hospital mortuary and Machakos level five hospital mortuary respectively.
