Former presidential candidate Mohamed Abduba Dida has laughed at President Uhuru Kenyatta after he predicted impressive economic growth in the next decade.
Speaking in Singapore last week, Uhuru said Kenya was determined to defy all odds and become a middle-income economy by 2030.
However, Dida said what the the Head of State predicted was unrealistic, arguing the prevailing circumstances will make it impossible for Kenya to achieve such fast economic growth in the short-term.
The Alliance for Real Change party leader said the country would take a century to become a middle-income economy, but noted Uhuru can still prove him wrong.
"The President is out of touch with the current situation in the country by believing that Kenya will be a middle income economy by 2030. The sad reality is that with the prevailing circumstances, we are at 100yrs from such economic status. However, he can change this narrative," Dida tweeted on Tuesday night.
During the Singapore Summit where he was the keynote speaker, Uhuru exuded confidence that his Big Four Agenda was the prerequisite model for economic transformation for Kenya.
"Taking heed of the examples set by Singapore and other nations that have emerged from low-income nation status, Kenya has embarked on a transformative agenda to turn our country into a newly industrialising middle-income country through the implementation of Vision 2030," he said.
