An irate mob on Sunday attacked a middle-aged man after he allegedly killed his father at Ikurungu village in Kirinyaga County. The man, whose identity has not been revealed, confronted his late father, Jackson Njogu while demanding to be given a share of his land.
He struck the father with an axe before he went on to throw his body in a well after the heinous act.
Upon realization of what had transpired at the deceased’s homestead, the angry villagers cornered the man and beat him thoroughly following the death of his father. The crowd wanted to lynch the man before the police arrived at the scene with immediate effect thereby rescuing his life.
Confirming the incident, Mwea East police boss John Onditi said that the suspect will be arraigned in court over the murder of the father. The man sustained serious injuries on the head and other parts of the body.
He has since been rushed to a hospital for treatment before he is presented in court to respond to charges levelled against him.
"Were it not for quick response by police officers, the young man would have been lynched by the mob," said Mr. Onditi.
The police boss also asked the residents not to take the law in their hands when they get an alert of such incidents in future.
