It starts from the large intestines and the rectum and spreads to other organs of the body. Colorectal cancer can be easily treated when detected early. 

Here are 5 stages of this type of cancer that you need to know;

Stage 0

This is simply the beginning of this type of cancer. It is the stage when abnormal cells are found in the walls of the colon. This stage can also be referred to as carcinoma in situ.

Stage 1

In this stage, cancer has invaded the inner walls of the colon. The inner walls of the large intestine can also be referred to as submucosa of the colon. In this stage, cancer may have also a deeper muscle layer of the colon wall. 

Stage 2

In this stage, cancer has grown past the submucosa of the large intestines and is almost approaching the lymph nodes but has not completely grown through. The Cancer has also grown closer to nearby organs. 

Stage 3

In this stage, the cancer has spread to the nearby lymph nodes but not distant organs. It can be found in two to four lymph nodes close to the colorectal region. Note that at this stage, the cancer has advanced and treatment has advanced. 

Stage 4

This is the last and the most dangerous stage of colorectal cancer. At this point, the cancer has spread to distant organs. Such organs could be the liver and the lungs. This stage is extremely life-threatening and treatment is indeed tougher.
