Residents of Njunu village, Kiambu town have asked bodaboda operators in the region to maintain hygiene for efficient business operations. Speaking at a Sacco meeting in the area on Monday, the operators’ chairman, Mwangi wa Mwangi said that residents had complained about the operators’ hygiene in the recent past hence rising alarm.

He added that those who will be found operating under unhygienic conditions would be penalised. The chairman said that helmets and life saver jackets should always be clean.

He said that some operators give customers dirty helmets which the customers refuse to wear which in turn makes them break traffic rules. He further explained that in order to curb this menace, motorcyclists should ensure they maintain good personal hygiene as it matters to the commuters. “I urge all of you to maintain good hygiene both personal and in the business to curb this complaints that have been received in the recent past,” he said. Mwangi gave a stern warning to those who will be found operating with dirty helmets and life jackets stating they risk been ejected from the Sacco.

An unhygienic operator was last week ambushed but managed to escape an angry crowd that wanted to wash him.
