Keroche Breweries directors Tabitha Karanja and her husband Joseph Karanja have accused the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) of delaying their case in which they were accused of evading to pay tax amounting to Sh14 million.
The couple raised concerns over the delay of the case through their lawyer James Orengo, citing that the office of the DPP appeared not ready to start the case despite their dramatic arrest.
“Police arrested them with a lot of drama but are now slowing the case by not supplying the documents. This was supposed to be a day of pre-trial which would ensure the case proceeds not only expeditiously but also fairly but the DPP is delaying us,” James Orengo stated as quoted by The Standard Media.
Orengo further pointed out that there was no reason that had been provided for the delay of the case and the lack of provision of the documents to the accused's legal team.
According to Orengo, the drama accompanied by the arrest of the two directors should be compensated through a quick and speedy trial.
State prosecutor Catherine Mwaniki, however, apologised for not providing the documents in time.
