Koinange speaking during a tour to his constituency today said that the fees imposed on day schools will be a major impediment to children from poor backgrounds.

"I am not for Mwiria's report. Asking the children in day schools to pay eleven thousand annually is a slap in their face," Koinange said.

He added, "Many of them here go to day schools and they are poor. The report might mean an end to their education."

Koinange warned that interfering with the fees structure of the day schools may lead to many dropping out of school and joining illegal sects.

"Let things remain as they are now. I remember when the fees were so high and most of the children spent their time idle at home and were prone to being recruited to illegal gangs," the legislator added.

The Mwiria-led team has proposed a raft of recommendations that if implemented will see a total shift on how public schools are run.
