Kiandutu elders have vowed to be vigilant on security issues after Thika west OCPD Shadrack Maithya threatened a curfew to curb insecurity.
The elders have promised to report crimes and also flush out criminals in the community to maintain peace and harmony.
Mzee Paul Kiarie, the elder of Kiandutu condemned the youths in the area whom he said have allegedly terrorised the residents not only with theft but also killing. He also accused them of drugs and substance abuse which destroys the children in the area.
He said that drug and substance dens are increasing and he issued an ultimatum to the owners to close them down or they will be brought to book.
Samuel Nyambura, another Kiandutu elder challenged mothers of the youths to report their sons and daughters to the authority since they are the one hiding them in the name love.
“Mothers pity their children and fear losing them. That is why they cannot report the spoilt behaviour to the police,” Nyambura said.
This comes after various incidents of killing and theft have been reported to the police and the residents have complained of insecurity forcing Thika boss to act on the matter.
They were all speaking on Sunday during a chief baraza in Kiandutu where William Ekasi, the Thika police spokesman warned the residents that the fight against crime not cease.
Ekasi said that residents, especially women are living in fear of rape or robberies which infringes on freedom of movement in the slum.
The spokesman urged the residents to forward the names of the criminals whom they know to help the police manhunt and reduce insecurity in the region.
