US-based activist and philanthropist Samuel Okemwa now wants Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i to join Governor John Nyagarama's succession race.
There is uncertainty surrounding Dr Matiang'i's next move, with his increased roles in government making a number of politicians from Gusii region to push for his entry to presidential race.
For a couple of months now, Matiang'i has assembled a formidable team, with Senator Okong'o Mogeni being a driving force behind his moves.
But activist Okemwa believes that Dr Matiang'i will not hold in future any position bigger than the current one, adding that he should try his luck in Governor John Nyagarama's succession race.
Further, he adds, Gusii leaders should pile pressure on the interior minister to influence recruitment of more Kisiis to police force, arguing that it's the only meaningful help he can give.
"My advice to Omogusii , pressure Matiangi to help young people from gusii get recruitment to police service when there is still time because Gusii will never have the position Fred Matiangi is holding for centuries to come. Finally I can advice Matiangi to try Nyamira Governorship, atleast he has some chances there," he said.
Recently, ODM leader Raila Odinga asked Abagusii leaders to desist from piling pressure on Matiang'i to contest, adding that pronouncement shall be made at the right time.
"I know what you want. Matiang'i is my son. Please stop distracting him. We shall make pronouncement when the time comes. For now, let him work."
Governor Nyagarama and his counterpart James Ongwae recently led a delegation of other Gusii leaders to Capitol Hill where they held a meeting with Raila.
A number of politicians have expressed interest to succeed him, with Borabu MP Ben Momanyi and ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire being among lead contestants.
