Philip Jamuhuri Mainga has been appointed by the Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary James Macharia as the new Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) managing director.
Mainga's appointment comes amid a reshuffle in the management of KRC to spruce up service delivery in the company.
Mainga will replace Atanas Maina who was suspended in August 2018 on corruption allegations.
“The Cabinet Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure James Macharia has appointed Mr Philip J. Mainga for a term of three years. Let us purpose to support in this role,” KRC board chairman Maj General (Rtd) Pastor Awita told Nation.
Mainga worked as a business researcher and general manager at KRC, until 2018 when he was promoted to act as an acting managing director of KRC.
Different people have also been brought in to serve in various capacities at KRC.
Mr David Njogu is now the general manager for legal services, John Maina the general manager for planning, design and environment and Edwin Njeru is the internal audit and research head.
Peter Kamakia was named the accounts manager, Jessica Indangasi as the general manager for ICT, while Francis Wanjohi assumed the role of real estate valuation and agency manager.
