Politician Koigi Wa Wamwere has heaped the blame on President Uhuru Kenyatta following revelations that Kenyans have been consuming meat laced with harmful chemicals.
This follows confirmation that several outlets have been selling meat laced with sodium metabisulphite, following a revelation by NTV journalist Dennis Okari earlier in the week.
Koigi now says that as much as the blame should land on the Ministry of Health for failing to detect the same, the president comes in as the ultimate custodian of Kenyans.
He says that the fact that the president is carrying the responsibility of all Kenyans on his shoulders makes him guilty as well, adding that he is also head of all the ministries.
"The government, ministry of health and president are all to blame. The collective blame lands on the president as he owns the government (Wa kulaumiwa ni serikali kwa jumla, wizara ya afya na hata rais. Ujumuikaji wa mwisho ni kwa rais, yeye ndiye mwenye serikali)," Koigi said on Saturday.
The former Subukia MP made the remarks on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Cheche show.
He stressed on the need for the state to address the recurrent issue of Kenyans being fed poisonous foods, months after it emerged that the nation had imported sugar laced with mercury.
The former Assistant Minister added that chances are high that the sugar remains in the market, considering that Kenyans have been in the dark about its fate, several months later.
"Hatujaambiwa kama ile sukari iliharibiwa, kuna uwezekano bado watu wanakunywa sukari yenye mercury," he said, adding that he has not been taking sugar since following the findings.
This translated to; "We have not been told is the sugar was destroyed. It is possible that people are still consuming the sugar stained with mercury."
