Kisii County government has been faulted for not paying contractors their money that they worked for in the year 2013/2014 and 2014/2015.

The contractors have threatened not to work for the county government anymore until they get paid their dues, said to be amounting to Sh2.4 billion.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday in Kisii town, Kisii County Contractors Association Secretary Mr James Ondari said they have been asking for their money but the answer they always get is "wait, the money has not been released by the national government".

Ondari said the contractors have many debts to settle among themselves since they have not been paid for a long time.

“Since the year 2013/2014 contractors from Kisii County have not been paid their money, we are not going to work with this government, we first demand the money we worked for,” he said.

He added: “there is unpaid bill of Sh2.4 billion, every time ask for that money we are always told to wait for the money from the national government".

They further claimed that the county government has diverted money meant to pay contractors to other projects.
