A man was arraigned before a Nakuru court on Monday for issuing a fake title deed as surety.

Stephen Maina faced five accounts of forgery, four counts of making a document without authority and uttering a false document namely a title deed.

It’s alleged that on October 9, at Nakuru law courts, Maina wanted to place a fake title deed of a land at Bahati/Kabatini area that he gave to state prosecutor chief inspector Cosmus Kunyua as a surety before Kunyua realised that the title deed was fake.

Inspector Kunyua requested the court to remand Maina at Nakuru Police Station upon the investigations that led to Maina being charged.

Maina is accused of allegedly forging an official certificate of search prepared by District land office, a letter from ministry of Land, Housing and Urban development prepared and issued by Nakuru district land office.

Maina faces five counts of forging the documents from prime valuers namely report of valuation and the official receipt of payment and also the title deed, official letter from ministry of lands dated April 17, 2015.

Appearing before Senior Principle magistrate Liz Gicheha, he pleaded not guilty and was released on a bond of Sh300,000 or a cash bail of Sh100,000

The case will be heard on Dec 17.
