Briefing the media from his office on Monday, County Commissioner Abdi Mohammed said security at the institution will be intensified.

Mohammed further said that the county is working closely with the university management board to ensure safety of staff and students.

“The government has deployed 16 more police officers to keep vigil at the Moi University as we expect Garissa University College students to be admitted later next week,” he said.

At least 700 students of Garissa University, a constituent College of Moi University are expected to be admitted at Moi starting next week.

Garissa College was closed indefinitely following a terror attack that saw 148 students killed early last month.

The county commissioner on the same note urged other learning institutions to put in place security measures for their staff and students.

He said security officials will work round the clock to make sure that security is provided across the county.

Last week, the county government announced plans to carry-out a security audit in all learning institutions with the aim of coming up with more appropriate safety measures.
