In the Kenyan political scene where female politicians have struggled to survive and compete with their male counterparts, Taveta MP Naomi Shaban has defied all odds to win four consecutive elections.
After coming to Parliament in 2002 on a KANU ticket, Dr Shaban has just been unstoppable and seems to enjoy her life in politics.
Today, she is the country's second longest-serving Member of Parliament after Kitutu Chache North Jimmy Agwenyi who has so far served for over 19 years.
Naomi Shaban was re-elected in 2007 on the same KANU ticket, and went ahead to serve in the Cabinet as Special Programmes Minister and later Youth Affairs Ministry, in the grand coalition government.
While vying on newly-formed TNA Party, the University of Nairobi-trained dentist, according to KenyanLife, went on to win the Taveta MP seat for a new term, her third in a row, during the 2013 general election.
After her convincing routine win during the 2017 general election on a Jubilee Party flag, the ruling party rewarded her with a parliamentary position as Deputy Majority leader in the National Assembly.
As one of the most articulate legislators in Parliament today, when Dr Shaban speaks, people listen. After all, she has seen it all in politics.
By 2022, she would have served as MP for 20 years. As to whether she will go for another term remains to be seen.
