A section of Jubilee party MPs have called for the disqualification of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Kibra parliamentary candidate Imran Okoth over claims of inciting his supporters to violence.
This comes after Jubilee candidate for the Kibra by-election McDonald Mariga's campaign convoy was attacked.
Several people were injured during the Saturday attack, while vehicles in the convoy were destroyed, and posters burned down.
Led by Lang’ata MP Nixon Korir and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa, the leaders want Imran disqualified.
Addressing a congregation on Sunday at PCEA Emmanuel Church in Makina, the leaders accused ODM party of inciting their supporters against other candidates in the Kibra race.
They condemned the attack and vowed to file a petition at IEBC seeking for disqualification of Imran.
While at the church, a group of rowdy youth reportedly threw stones, breaking the church's windows.
“It is shameful the youths who attacked Mariga’s convoy yesterday have followed us here and destroyed window panes,” said Korir as quoted by Citizen Digital.
Mariga and Imran are considered favourites in the race.
The Kibra by-election is slated for November 7, 2019.
