A man recorded on video mercilessly slashing a suspected chicken thief in Shinyalu, Kakamega County will spend 15 days in police custody together with three other suspects.
According to a report by Citizen TV, the Investigating Officer Athman Ali pleaded with the magistrate for more time to conclude investigations on Monday, when the four were presented before a Kakamega court.
He argued that the suspects needed to undergo a mental check-up before being presented in the court.
Magistrate Hazel Wandere gave the detectives 15 days to investigate the case, consequently setting the date for hearing to be on August 13, 2019.
The four suspects; Francis Muse Liseche is popularly known as Moi, Evans Lichoti Ashihundu, Agapitus Ingosi Ang’uswa and Reuben Smith Shitambasi were arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Sunday. This was after a video showing one of the suspects slashing a suspected thief to death using a machete.
DCI George Kinoti had issued an order for the arrest of the suspects citing that they should be held accountable for their actions.
“There is nothing like mob injustice. They murdered and let those who are engaged in such incidents know their time is coming,” George Kinoti stated as quoted by The Standard Media.
