Speaking during the Launch of the Baby Day Care Centre at Kenyatta University the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Olive Mugenda said that the newly launched Baby Day Care Centre will attend to parents’ needs of their babies at their tender age when they need more special care, support and protection from potential abuse.

This from her remarks is aimed at ensuring that the children’s earliest experiences have positive long-lasting effects on their development.

The launch of the Kenyatta University Baby Day Care Centre is part of ongoing corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at promoting sustainable individual and societal development.

The newly opened centre provides a safe, accessible, affordable and high-quality childcare to babies of Kenyatta University staff and students between 3- 36 months.

It provides feeding areas at the working and learning place so that mothers can easily breastfeed their young ones without interrupting their academic and work schedules.

“Establishment and launch of the Kenyatta University Baby Day Care Centre is in line with the World Health Organization’s recommendation of exclusive breastfeeding up to 24 months of age alongside appropriate complementary feeding.

With the high quality of care provided at the Centre, it is a major boost to respective parents’ morale and a consequent improvement of their productivity at the workplace with the knowledge that their young ones are well cared for,” she said.
