According to the charge sheet seen by the Sunday Nation, Anthony Wangamba and Joseph Njue caused the unlawful obstruction using vehicles "without a fixed prescribed number of identification plates, design and colour inscribed as the identification mark”

The alleged incident transpired on August 29 along the busy Mombasa Road as Uhuru's convoy cruised along the highway from the Jomo Kenyatta International Highway.

President Uhuru had, at the time, arrived in the country from Japan where he had attended a conference on Africa.

Mr Njue and Wangamba have denied the charges of obstruction leveled against them.

A Land Cruiser V8 and a Lexus LX570, driven by the two, are said to have been involved in the obstruction.

The two drivers were arrested on the day the obstruction happened and taken into police custody.

Cars in the presidential convoy are usually allowed to move unobstructed as part of the spoils of presidential power.

The development comes amid an escalation of the troubles that the flamboyant Nairobi county boss is facing.

Governor Sonko is grappling with a probe by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission that he has strongly rebuffed.

According to the EACC, a company with a tender for garbage collection in Nairobi wired money into the personal account of the governor.
