Firebrand politician Richard Onyonka on Wednesday reunited with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for the first time officially.

After securing his Kitutu Chache South seat in 2017 following Mr Odinga's endorsement, Onyonka, a master of defection, seemed to lean towards Jubilee administration.

Early this year, Mr Onyonka, the son of former long serving minister Zachary Onyonka, supported Deputy President William Ruto for 2022 presidency.

But months later, Onyonka decamped Ruto's camp, accusing him of failing to take advise from leaders over his 2022 future. He has since supported the handshake.

"I have advised him severally but he doesn't listen. He is full of himself. I told him to stop fighting Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila, he doesn't listen," he said.

Last week at Nyanturago during the burial of Dr Hezron Manduku, Mr Onyonka asked Dr Matiang'i to work closely with Raila Odinga ahead of 2022.

"Dr Matiang'i, that man loves you. Work with him closely and you shall go places. He understands Kenya than most of us. I guarantee you that," he said.

The Wednesday's reunion marks perhaps another political realignment from Gusii in which Mr Onyonka will play a vital role given his huge following back at home.

In 2008, Raila appointed Onyonka as Foreign Affairs assistant minister during the grand coalition government. His father, Zachary, was also a close friend of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
