The Nyamira County Commissioner Josephine Onunga has revealed that they have started a program to ensure that all heads of schools work together with the security team in the County to ensure that they stop any acts of terrorism.

Speaking in Nyamira, the County Commissioner said that the program will be of much importance to the County of Nyamira adding that it is good to join hands as a people and work towards achieving it.

Onunga specifically noted the Garissa University College attack that led to lose of 147 innocent students, saying that she does not want such to happen to the people of Nyamira.

She said that she will involve heads of schools in sub-county security committees and they will also want to know the details of all students in tertiary level institutions in the county.

“We do not want what happened in Garissa to happen in our county and it is the reason sub county security teams will have heads of schools.We also want to know details of tertiary education students in the county. We shall train them on how we coordinate and network for easy report of any terror threat or suspects,” she said.

She also added that they have rolled out a programme in schools that will train students on how to identify terror suspects and how they can report the matter to the police quickly adding that Hospitals are among the places where security shall be heightened.
