Youths in karanjee village in Limuru sub-county Kiambu County haave unveiled a campaign to curb drug and substance abuse among fellow youth and students.

Limuru Youth for Change plans to mobilise and sensitise youth on the dangers of being associated with drug abuse.

Speaking on Wednesday in Limuru Town, group Chairman Newton Kinuthia said that drug abuse among the youth and students is a major challenge that needs urgent attention.

“We are shocked to learn that students have joined the league of drug addicts that is why we want to educate the youth on the effects of using drugs and their consequences,” said Kinuthia.

He added that there is high rise in the number of youth who are involved in consumption of illicit liquor and use of drugs.

“Use of bhang among the youth even students is worrying and we must seek for a permanent solution to end this menace”, said Kinuthia.

He said that they want to create a society free from drug abuse.

“Our first step will start with youth who are prone to drugs due to lack of employment,” added the chairperson.

He noted the numerous crimes committed in Limuru area are due to influence of drug abuse and urged the locals to support the drive.

“The society has a role to play in elimination of use of drugs among the youth,” added Kinuthi.

He further urged the youth in Limuru to join and respond to the drive to attain their dreams.
