Molo Member of Parliament Kuria Kimani has denied allegations that on Thursday he showed up to a public meeting drunk.
Kimani said he is a respected leader and a father and cannot visit his constituents to address important matters while drunk.
The MP said that allegations of him being drunk are being spread by his political opponents who want to ruin his name.
“I admit, l usually drink, but honestly, I could not be drunk on Thursday evening. That is a lie advanced by my competitors. I am a father and a respected leader. I cannot do that,” said Kimani as quoted by Nation.
Kimani was on Thursday evening whisked away by police officers when he tried to address the public at Elburgon in Molo Constituency in a meeting convened to discuss how to deal with the alcohol menace.
The angry residents threatened to beat him up for showing up drunk when he staggered his way to the podium to address them.
The MP on his Facebook account said the war against alcoholism will not be won through politics saying licenses should be issued to the right people.
“Today I make an unpopular remark. The fight against alcoholism in my motherland will not be won if we use it for politics. People serving in the liquor license committee cannot award licenses then incite the public against the same licenses.”
“I am glad today’s resolutions meant the cancellation of licenses given by the same team. Mobilize against this as much as you like but the truth is stubborn. I know corruption fights back and it certainly is and will,” he posted on Facebook.
