Wanyoro B Chief Bethwel Maina has warned bodaboda operators over careless riding, saying serious action would be taken against those flouting the traffic rules.
Speaking on Monday at Wanyoro B in Bahati Ward, during a public meeting, Maina decried over the high rise in road accidents caused by the boda boda operators.
“Hardly a day passes in Wanyoro B without a road accident report by the boda bodas, tough action would be taken against those not obeying the road regulations,” said Maina.
The warning comes after a young boy was injured in an accident along the Wanyoro B-Lanet road and rushed to the Nakuru Provincial General Hospital.
The administrator further asked the motorcycle riders to respect the road safety rule to avoid unnecessary accidents.
“Every bodaboda has obligation to respect the road rules and respect other road users,” said Maina.
He urged them to be more careful during this festive season as more children are using roads with increased activities in the area.
“Bodabodas should be very vigilant when using the roads as the schools have closed and care for the safety of children, beccuase you will see them all over running,” said the administrator.
Maina further observerved the need for the operators to go for fresh training, saying it is the only way to reduce the accident cases.
“The bodaboda industry is being infiltrated by untrained riders who have no basic road safety, it will be important for more of the riders to get proper training”, said the chief.
He also urged operators to join Saccos that would enable them restore sanity on the roads.
“With the presence of bodaboda saccos, sanity and order can be restored on our roads,” added Maina.
The public meeting came at a time when the residents of Wanyoro B had expressed their concerns over the increased road accidents by the bodaboda riders.
