You better visit a garage and have your unroadworthy vehicle checked or risk being arrested for contravening traffic rules.
At a meeting with stakeholders at a Nakuru hotel on Monday, traffic boss Charlton Muriithi said the rate of irresponsibility being depicted by vehicle owners was alarming.
“This goes to town service owners and other road users who are making it impossible for fellow motorists because of their worn out vehicles,” he said.
Muriithi further cautioned motorcycle operators who modify their exhaust pipes so that they make loud and funny noises as they move around.
“It’s always advisable to consider the environment and other road users before doing any modifications to your machine,” he advised.
According to the traffic boss, the department will liaise with other police departments in ensuring that only roadworthy vehicles are at the disposal on the major roads within the Nakuru CBD and its environs.
He singled out smoky and noisy exhausts, oil leakages, loud music and unpleasant hooting as some of the departments that have been ignored by residents, especially city dwellers.
“Pollution is against the law and if the trend continues, our road users will be unmanageable forcing the county to spend more in controlling the vice,” he added.
He further revealed that a crackdown will be mounted in due time to flash out such vehicles from Nakuru roads.
