More than 500 residents of Njoro Township residing near the Njoro Retail Market risk suffering from sanitation related diseases from negligence of the markets main damping site.
The damp site situated at close range to the market is in pathetic state after casual workers boycotted their responsibilities over unpaid wages.
A total of 46 casual workers who earned Ksh. 411 daily had been hired by the county government of Nakuru under the department of environment to carry out major cleaning of Njoro Township.
The workers services were however withdrawn two weeks ago after the county government failed to pay wages for the months of October and November
“The government should look into this situation and address it as soon as possible, otherwise there is no telling what could happen to the health of the citizens of Njoro,” said Kamau chege one of the traders.
Contacted for comment the County Director of Environment Muriithi Kiogora said that the casual workers stopped working after the area Member of County Assembly cited political reasons. He added that he was not informed of the move until today.
