The union’s Secretary General, Seth Panyako accused the authority’s chairman Kinuthia Wamwangi for dismantling the health sector through a legal notice.

Speaking during the Kisumu nurses meeting at Kenyatta sports grounds on Monday, he added that the authority has failed in carrying out its mandate and there is no reason it should continue to exist.

He said they are not employees of the county government because they are not responsible for their salaries yet the authority insists nurses are under devolved government.

“The commission should not engage in negotiation and should properly focus on its mandates,” said Panyako.

He further said there is no Act of Parliament devolving health adding that TA should not purport to have devolved the sector’s functions through a legal notice.

Wamwangi, on Thursday last week, maintained that the health had improved tremendously after devolution despite numerous human resource challenges.

He said they had inspected various hospitals across the country and established that there was great improvement in infrastructure and service delivery.

Wamwangi while speaking at Kenya Methodist University said some counties have experienced great improvement in health provision under county governments.

“We have seen developments that had never been experienced for the last 50 years after independence,” he said.

He urged health workers’ union to actively engage with the Council of Governors to ensure proper structures in delivery of service in the health sector.
