More than 400 residents of Kabazi Township in Subukia on Friday stormed the area assistant county commissioner’s office demanding the immediate arrest of an Administration Police (AP) officer.

The AP officer allegedly assaulted a middle aged man on Thursday night.

Led by the area MCA Mwangi Waithaka, the residents condemned the incident saying the officer had become accustomed to the habit of assaulting people.

“We are demanding the immediate dismissal of this officer. It is wrong and unfair for the AP commander in Subukia to fail to act on previous complaints regarding this officer,” said Waithaka.

Waithaka added that he had raised the issue with the County AP Commander as well but action is yet to be taken against him.

The officer reportedly beat up Alex Njoroge at around 9pm after a disagreement at a local bar.

Njoroge was left unconscious forcing the area MCA to rush him to Bahati District Hospital where he is currently admitted.

“I suffered injuries on my hands, right leg and head. Due to this, I have incurred a hospital bill which I do not even have money to pay for,” said Njoroge.

Medics at the hospital said the patient was out of danger adding that he regained his consciousness in the morning.

During the demonstration, Kabazi Divisional AP Commander David Velela had a difficult time cooling down the protestors who were threatening to torch the officer’s house.

“I have reported the assault incident to my seniors who have in turn ordered that the said officer reports to the Subukia AP Headquarters for action to be taken. Should investigations find him guilty, then necessary disciplinary action will be taken against him,” said Velela.

He said that a complaint had been made about the officer three months ago where he allegedly inflicted injuries on a minor who later died while undergoing treatment.

Velela said that the issue is still under investigations promising to have the two incidents investigated thoroughly.
