Boda boda operators and residents of Tabaka town took to the streets on Friday to protest over the poor state of roads in the area.
The operators who were carrying twigs said the roads had become impassable with the on-set of the heavy rains and it was affecting their business negatively and threatened to stop paying taxes until all roads in the area are repaired.
The riders also demanded for sheds to be put up for them at designated points so that they could provide them with shelter against the harsh weather.
According to Daniel Mageka an operator in the area complained that that the county government had totally neglected the roads and they were suffering heavy losses due to bad infrastructural facilities.
“The roads leading to most estates like Nyachenge Tabaka and Ogembo to Tabaka are completely impassable. We cannot reach our customers, business is bad and yet we pay taxes. We demand that the roads be repaired immediately”, he said.
Tabaka ward representative Daniel Ombasa Apepo who addressed them called on the county government to repair roads and drainage systems in the area before the situation got out of hand and called on residents to practice proper hygiene so as to keep water-borne diseases at bay.
