Daima milk plant in Nairobi county has been shut down until further notice by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA).
Daima which is owned by Sameer Agriculture and Livestock Limited was closed on Tuesday morning for allegedly failing to meet the waste disposal regulations.
Kenneth Kareithii, a production manager at the Daima plant in Industrial Area was nabbed during a raid made by NEMA officers and Police.
According to Authority's acting director-general Mamo B. Mamo, they will forge ahead to crackdown industries operating along Nairobi River who fails effluent regulations.
"Nema has identified 102 discharge points along Nairobi River. Out of inspections conducted, 50 per cent of firms has complied. Ongoing inspections are to ensure remaining have complied as per Water Quality Regulation 2006 or be shut down and (officials) prosecuted," Mr Mamo said as quoted by Daily Nation
Furthermore, the trio Synresins chemical factory CEO Mira Shah, human resource Manager Yvonne Nyokabi and production manager Michael Munga were arrested during a raid by NEMA officials.
NEMA had already closed down four other companies in the industrial area namely; Kamongo Paper Recycling Company, Apex Limited that manufactures paints, Thorlite Kenya Ltd and Modern Lithographic (K) Ltd over pollution of Nairobi river allegations.
