The planned swearing-in of Kiambu Deputy Governor Dr James Nyoro as the County Governor on Thursday failed to take place after the judge failed to show up for the event.
High Court Judge John Onyiego has finally broken silence on why he did not show up.
According to Justice Onyiego, the oath-taking event was postponed after the event failed to satisfy the Assumption of the Office of Governor Act No.4 of 2019.
“The County Committee on Assumption of Governor’s office has not complied with Section 11(1) of the Act, which requires publication and notification of the swearing in ceremony in the Kenya Gazette and the County Gazette stating the time, date and place of swearing. It is those Gazette Notices that grants the power to swear in the Deputy Governor in such situation,” said Justice Onyiego, as quoted by Citizen Digital.
Several personalities including Kiambu Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), Kiambu Woman Representative Gathoni wa Muchomba and Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura had already arrived for the event before they realized the Judge was nowhere to be seen.
The Senate on Wednesday night upheld the impeachment of Waititu by the MCAs.
