26 students have benefited from Wings to Fly scholarship program from Busia County courtesy of Equity Group Foundation.
Busia Branch of Equity Bank selected 13 students with Malaba given similar slots.
Last year each of the two branches were awarded 20 slots.
Speaking during the flagging off ceremony at the Busia branch on Friday that was presided over by Deputy Governor Kizito Wangalwa, Equity Busia Branch Manager Oscar Masinde said the official commissioning ceremony for all beneficiaries across the country will be presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nairobi on Monday.
He said successful students have been awarded comprehensive secondary school scholarships following their exemplary performance in the 2016 KCPE exams.
Deputy Governor Kizito Wangalwa thanked Equity Bank for the big sponsorship and told the beneficiaries to be good ambassadors of Busia County.
He also lauded the bank for giving an opportunity for sponsored students who score A and A- to work with the bank.
Wangalwa thanked 2016 KCPE candidates for making the county attain position five among 47 counties in the country.
He said parents have a herculean task of advising their children and giving them direction.
The DG also revealed that 439 EDCE teachers will be employed starting this month.
County Executive Committee Member for Education and Vocational Training Azida Ali said the County Government has allocated Sh110 million towards education bursary for needy students across the county.
The CeC said they have set aside a further Sh70 million as revolving fund for university and tertiary institution students.
She urged recipients of Equity Bank scholarship to make use of the opportunity to excel in their careers.
