Nakuru County government has donated four boats to Lake Naivasha to help improve efficiency and service delivery.

Speaking after officially handing over the boats, Governor Kinuthia Mbugua cautioned fishermen against illegal fishing saying it was risky and posed a population threat to the available fish.

"Don't sneak into the lake at night because if anything happens, nobody will be at liberty to explain what exactly transpired," he said on Wednesday.

He further reiterated the fact that his government was committed to erecting a fish freezing and processing plant to ease fishermen from losses due to lack of the facilities.

"It is a matter of time before we hit the ground because land has already been identified," the Governor assured.

The boats will be used by officers from the department of Fisheries to patrol the lake that has long been faced with illegal fishing.

The boats will be named mv Suswa, mv Menengai, mv Ulinzi and mv Longonot.
